    Edward Zuckerman began his newspaper career in 1963 when he landed a job in Chicago Heights, Ill. After working for newspapers in Kankakee, Ill., and Gary, Ind., he joined the Ridder Newspaper Group’s Washington bureau in 1970. He left the bureau, which had become the Knight-Ridder Washington Bureau, to establish PACs & Lobbies, a newsletter that he edited and published from 1980 to 2005.
