Plurality back Kavanaugh heading into confirmation hearings: poll

WASHINGTON — A plurality of voters support Brett Kavanaugh heading into the Supreme Court nominee’s confirmation hearings, according to a POLITICO/Morning Consult poll released Tuesday.

The poll found that 37 percent said they back Kavanaugh’s confirmation while 29 percent said they disapprove. Meanwhiile, 34 percent said that they had no opinion.

The poll reflects a stark partisan divide, with 67 percent of Republicans backing his confirmation compared to 15 percent of Democrats.

Kavanaugh is appearing before the Senate Judiciary on Tuesday for the first of four days of confirmation hearings.

Tuesday will consist of opening remarks.

The poll was conducted among 1,964 registered voters between August 28-31. There is a margin of error of +/- 2 percentage points.
