WASHINGTON— President Donald Trump is continuing his offensive against Bob Woodward, lighting up his Twitter account with swipes against the veteran journalist one day before the general release of his new book, Fear: Trump in the White House.

Trump also claimed that NBC’s Savannah Guthrie “caught” Woodward during an interview Monday morning.

While Guthrie did ask the question during an interview with Woodward Monday morning, the author defended his book, saying that those who countered his quotes are “not telling the truth.”

“These are political statements to protect their jobs, totally understandable,” Woodward said. “But this is as carefully done as you can do an excavation of the reality of what goes on.”

Woodward went on to say that some sources frequently offer public denials about what they have told him, but declined to say if that was the case surrounding his latest book.

Last week, the Washington Post released excerpts of the book that portrayed White House staffers expressing doubt over Trump behind closed doors and working in secret to contain some of his more controversial policy decisions.
