THE WHITE HOUSE – Former Vice President Joe Biden is expected to announce his candidacy for the 2020 presidential run on Thursday in Philadelphia.
Following a launch video he will reportedly release, Biden’s anticipated appearance at a follow-up fundraiser for high-dollar donors may take place at the Philadelphia Art Museum.
Biden is scheduled to visit Pittsburgh for a campaign event on Monday.
TMN called Biden’s confidant and adviser, former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, to get confirmation that he has been in contact with Biden’s team. Rendell is reportedly still awaiting final word on timing for the event, though he is helping to organize the fundraiser.
Biden’s main strategy is to lock in working-class union support early, a strategy he sees as key to quashing President Donald Trump in the general election. Trump won broad support in 2016 from working-class voters.
Biden has locked in the endorsement of the International Association of Firefighters. Harold Schaitberger, the IAFF president, says he plans to deploy the 300,000-member union’s resources to early-voting states as soon as possible.
Steven Cozen, a Philadelphia attorney and Biden adviser, says the Biden strategy is “building the bottom.”
