WASHINGTON—White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders dismissed Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-Vt.) proposal to implement a single payer health care system as a “horrible idea.”
“I can’t think of anything worse than having government be more involved in your health care than more involved.”
Bernie Sanders, the upper chamber’s most prominent progressive, has described his proposal as “Medicare for all.”
It has found 15 co-sponsors thus far, including potential 2020 candidates Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Kamala Harris (D-Calif.).
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), have both declined to sign on.
